January 20th - January 22nd

Tuesday, January 20th

We had a quiet, lazy day at the condo today. I spent some time writing on our blog.

Cordell had a “working” lunch this afternoon—he was working on solving puzzles for geocaches.  Homemade vegetable beef soup and sandwiches sure cost a lot less than yesterday’s lunch.

Wednesday, January 21st

Life surely is good on days like this—sunny and 83°-- when we see pictures of snow at home.

We began our day on Cape Coral where we went to look at an earthcache--no physical container is at the site. This one was interesting because we learned that it is believed that Florida was once a part of Northwest Africa. When the sea level was the lowest after the last ice age, Florida was as much as three times the current land area as it is today.

We saw coral rock along the Caloosahatchee River’s edge and we observed seashells and other marine life in this coral rock.

We were required to find a fossil specimen, identify it and submit our answers to the cache owner. In addition, we needed to tell a little about our adventure.

We enjoyed just sitting by the river’s edge and taking in the view of Fort Myers.

This was another one of those days when we wanted to stay outside all day long.

So we continued geocaching and found a total of 12 caches. My favorite one was inside a plastic spider.

Another one had various birds nearby.

We have a squirrel outside our condo that likes to climb on our lanai screen. I wonder if he is people watching.

Thursday, January 22nd

We took a walk through our neighborhood after breakfast this morning and it was so nice to see the various flowers that are blooming.

I haven’t seen any robins or cardinals, but it is common to see Ibises strolling around the yards.

One of the palms trees reminded me of a giant pineapple.

I tried a new recipe for dinner that was posted on Facebook recently. It was Crockpot Orange Chicken and it passed Cordell’s taste test.

After dinner, we went a Bill Gaither Homecoming concert at the local arena. Some of you may recognize him as the composer of the well-known song, “Because He Lives”. The tickets were a Christmas gift from our son, Andy and his wife, Corinne. We have been to two other Gaither concerts previously and knew we were going to hear a full night of music. The concert began at 7:00 p.m. and with the exception of a short intermission, the music was non-stop for 3 ½ hours. Neither of us had any problems going to sleep since we missed our normal bedtime!
