Tuesday, February 3rd
The sun rises later here in Fort Myers and the “snow
moon” was still shining shortly after 6:00 a.m. It is a traditional name for
the full moon that occurs in February in North America. Usually this month is a
time for snow and cold air temperatures, and this is the reason for the name
"snow moon".
It was not difficult for us to decide what we wanted to
do on this beautiful day---our 4th trip to Sanibel Island.
We took our bicycles and rode around again looking for geocaches.
We visited a spartina marsh which is located on the
Bailey Tract in part of the Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve. Sanibel Island and the Bailey Tract formed as
a "Barrier Island" about 6,000 years ago. This marsh is very unusual
for a barrier island and gives the visitor a glimpse into how the island was
formed over a very long period of time.
Birds and ducks are commonly seen in just about every
place where there is water.
We still have warnings about alligators.
Wednesday, February 4th
We awoke with much excitement this morning because early
this evening our granddaughter, Janelle was arriving to spend a week with us.
She is able to do this because she is homeschooled. It is the first time she has traveled on an airplane by herself.
We have seen drive thru banks, we had our oil changed at a
drive thru facility, we can pick up our prescriptions at a drive thru at the
drug store, we can get our lunch at a drive through fast food restaurant, but
today was the first time I saw a drive through flower shop.
We ate our lunch at a Pizza Hut and their buffet was very
good as shown by Cordell’s plate of second helpings.
We spent a couple hours anxiously killing time at the
swimming pool.
At last, it was time to drive to the airport here in Fort Myers
to meet Janelle. We really like this international airport because it is easy
to get to, parking is across the street from the terminal and the inside is filled
with beautiful furnishings. It is interesting to see the various clothing worn
by the arriving passengers. Many of them were wearing or carrying coats and the
temperature here was 73 degrees.
Janelle caught herself cringing while bracing for cold
air when we walked outside the terminal. Once we got back to the condo, she
quickly settled into her space.
Janelle and Cordell have been eating ice cream
together since she was less than one year old and it didn’t take them long to chow
down on some tonight.
