Wednesday, March 11th
We noted at breakfast that between the four of us, there
are a lot of pills being taken. We were glad that there were no drug raids.
This photo shows what an old person’s breakfast looks like:
Our resident alligator showed up again this morning. This
is only the second time we have seen him this year. Last year, he spent some
time very near our lanai.
Cordell and Kurt had a tee time to play golf later this
afternoon, so they spent most of the morning discussing the holes and how they
might approach them.
Ruthie and I went to the community swimming pool. But,
first I had to check to see if her toenails were painted. A person just cannot
go to the swimming pools without painted toenails!
Cordell and Kurt’s golf outing got rained out after 9
holes. However, we did not have any rain here at the condo until later in the
evening. Since this part of Florida has the ocean on the east side and the Gulf
of Mexico on the west side, the weather changes very quickly just a few mile
apart.
Thursday, March 12th
This was Kurt and Ruthie’s last day in Florida.
They wanted to
visit Sanibel Island. I have lost count of the number of times we have been
there, but I don’t think I will ever tire of spending time at this beautiful
place.
We decided to ride on some of the bike trails and look
for some geocaches. Ruthie rented a 3 wheeler bike and it worked very, very
well for her.
Once when she was looking for a geocache that I had
already found, I perched on her bike seat which has a back rest and relaxed a
bit.
We all had a lot of geocaching success. Kurt and Ruthie
found 28 caches. We had previously found some of them.
I couldn’t let Kurt and Ruthie leave Florida without
finding my “I Left My Heart In Fort Myers” geocache.
Friday, March 13th
Yikes--Friday, the 13th!! Kurt and Ruthie got
a very early start on their trip back to Virginia. We enjoyed our time with
them so very much and can’t believe how fast the days passed.
We had plans to join our friend, Brian, to look for a 5
stage multi cache that he had placed along Whiskey Creek River. He needed to do
a maintenance run so we got to go with him---success for us was guaranteed!
Before we met Brian, we found the first stage under a
bridge that crossed the creek. We knew that it was not accessible from a canoe.
Then we went to Brian’s house and loaded his canoe onto
our geomobile for a short drive to the creek side.
Cordell and Brian did almost all the paddling and I got to
sit back and enjoy the trip.
We saw some beautiful homes that were so large that I
first thought they must be inns or small hotels. Brian told me that a lot of
them we built on lots that where originally 2 houses were constructed.
I saw a gazebo that was covered in some type of vines.
I packed lunch for the three of us and we ate it in the
canoe while stopped at a secluded place
At the final stage, the aquatic plants had grown so
thickly that the guys could not paddle the canoe through them. Brian doubted
that a kayak could even pass there. So, he got out of the canoe and pulled up
some of the plants. Now there is an obvious goetrail for the next cacher to
spot.
Saturday, March 14th
Today was Pi Day and there was a special souvenir awarded
to geocachers who found a particular type of cache.
So we made a quick trip out and visited two cache sites.
I don't blame you LOVIN' that Sanibal Island... I really would like to stay on that island one year. I would find no reason to leave it! Glad you had a great visit with Ruthie & Kurt!
ReplyDeleteThat water series of Brian's looks like it would be a LOT of fun! VERY kind of him to create that geotrail!!! JoAnne and I were up in Dover that day... not quite as much "adventure" - but lots of fun anyway! :)
OH! I forgot! I DID manage to get BOTH of the Pi Day awards! Dodging the rain drops I found 2 puzzles AND hit the event! Pizza Pie was my pie of choice for the day!
